The National Institute of Health’s Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) of Zinc is 40 mg. This is the “maximum daily intake unlikely to cause adverse health effects.” Some AREDS 2 brands use double this level (80 mg)!
The AREDS 2 Study tested both 80 mg of 25 mg of zinc. Investigators found NO significant changes in effectiveness of the formulation when lowering the zinc to 25 mg.
Too much zinc can cause nausea, interference with certain antibiotics & antivirals, stomach pains, high rate of UTIs & kidney stones, and inhibit absorption of iron & copper which leads to anemia and neurological damage.

I guess the Viteyes AREDS2 soft gels are doing their job; I have not had an eye exam since I began taking them. I am happy that they have the lower zinc level.
AREDS 2 vitamins were recommended by my ophthalmologist. I switched from powder to softgels and enjoy the “no-fuss” ease in using the Viteyes product. At one time I tried another company’s softgels and discovered that the contents of many of the capsules were hard. Viteyes softgels are consistently soft and squeezable.

The soft gels are easier to swallow considering the size of the pill. Haven’t noticed any noticeable improvement in my sight, everything is the same and stable.

It’s impossible for a layperson to judge the quality of a product like this, but the company’s service is 100% reliable and customer service has been excellent, inspiring me to stay loyal and keep my subscription with VitEyes instead of switching to a competing product from the mammoth B&L (and despite the latter being available from discount giants). “Small” merchants need our support.

Last year prior to having both of my cataracts removed my ophthalmologist told me I had Macular Degeneration. I have an incredible amount of faith in Dr. Rich in Santa Rosa, CA. He is amazing. He told me that studies had been done on those with Macular Degeneration and those that used the AREDS 2 had their degeneration slowed dramatically or stopped. He said nothing is a guarantee but this is a ophthalmologist that has a lot of patients and 4 offices because he is so busy. There are AREDS Study Results shown here and reading them will make you hopeful. I haven’t been on Viteyes AREDS 2 Softgels a long time, but I started 6 months or so ago. I feel that by using the softgels I’m doing all I can to prevent my Macular Degeneration from getting worse. I take them faithfully, I never miss. I believe they will keep my eyes from getting worse.
